Chile had exceptional participation in the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025 (WHS), held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. As one of the leading conferences and exhibitions in the global hydrogen industry, the event attracted over 15,000 attendees and 700 exhibiting companies.
Chile’s Energy Minister Diego Pardow, Rotterdam Mayor Carola Schouten, Port of Rotterdam CEO Boudewijn Siemons and Chilean Ambassador to the Netherlands Jorge Carvajal officially inaugurated the Chile Pavilion.
InvestChile’s Energy Sector Lead Mauricio Riveros and Investment Commissioner for Europe Vanessa Séverin represented Chile alongside ProChile’s Trade Commissioner for the Netherlands Osvaldo Marinao.
Chilean public-private participation
The Chilean delegation numbered over 50 representatives from the public and private sectors, including CORFO, AES Chile, Colbún, Fraunhofer Chile, Gasmar, Acciona & Nordex, Techint, Wood, Marval, Arcadis, Free Power, EINAS, Sumitomo Corporation, ECIT and associations like PRI Biobío, H2 Chile, H2 Antofagasta and H2 Magallanes.
The visit included a tour of the Port of Rotterdam, the largest in Europe, which is undergoing a significant transformation to become the continent’s primary gateway for emission-free fuels.
The delegation observed the construction of Europe’s largest green hydrogen plant and the new terminals specialized in H2V and its derivatives, reinforcing Chile’s potential as a strategic global clean energy supplier.
Chile and its green hydrogen potential
With unparalleled natural resources and a steadfast commitment to sustainability, Chile has positioned itself as a major player in the global green hydrogen industry. Since launching its National Green Hydrogen Strategy in November 2020, the country has been striving to become the world’s most competitive producer.
Chile possesses the world’s greatest solar energy potential and outstanding wind energy conditions, particularly in the Magallanes region. These natural advantages, combined with expertise in desalination and water reuse, as well as developing supporting infrastructure, create an ideal environment for GH2 production.
Enabling framework and investment support
Through institutions like InvestChile and CORFO, the Chilean government provides ongoing support for investors interested in developing green hydrogen projects. Initiatives such as the Green Hydrogen Industry Development Committee and the 2023-2030 Action Plan aim to coordinate and ensure the sector’s sustainable growth.
Chile also benefits from 33 trade agreements with 65 economies, facilitating access to international markets for clean energy exports.
An opportunity for the future
Green hydrogen is a cornerstone of Chile’s energy transition. The country aims to achieve energy independence and become a large-scale exporter of clean energy. Collaboration with international players and foreign direct investment will be crucial to reaching that goal.
With a clear strategy, competitive advantages and a commitment to sustainability, Chile is poised to lead the green hydrogen revolution worldwide.
