A series of visits to cable car and train manufacturers in Zurich, Switzerland, marked the fourth day of InvestChile Week Europe. Public Works Undersecretary Danilo Núñez led the Zurich segment of the roadshow alongside Acting General Director of Concessions Claudio Soto.
In the morning, Undersecretary Núñez, Juan Eduardo Chackiel, the Head of the Studies and Financial Analysis Division at the General Directorate of Concessions; Patricio Álvarez, InvestChile Infrastructure and Logistics Sector Lead; and Francisca Müller, InvestChile Investment Commissioner for Italy, Switzerland, and Austria, visited the Doppelmayr factory. Doppelmayr manufactures the cable cars that will service the Bicentennial Aerial Tramway, connecting Santiago’s Providencia and Huechuraba districts. Chile’s first public transport aerial tramway will have the capacity to transport 6,000 passengers per hour.
Undersecretary Núñez emphasized the high standards and technology utilized in the manufacturing of each unit, which will be part of an infrastructure comprising three stations, 19 towers, a technical control building and supplementary public works projects, including access points, landscaping and electromechanical equipment. “We have been observing the construction of the cable cars for the upcoming Bicentennial Aerial Tramway. We hope to have this new mode of transportation, which is fantastic news for our capital city, operational as early as next year,” he said.
Acting General Director of Concessions Claudio Soto also arrived in the Swiss capital, where he met with representatives from Zurich Airport Group, a company with operations in northern Chile. They convened at the airport terminal, which serves 200,000 users daily and connects with trains and bus lines, to discuss issues related to international trends that enhance the airport passenger experience.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Stadler, a Swiss manufacturer of state-of-the-art railway rolling stock. They toured the plant and engaged in discussions with senior executives regarding opportunities in the streetcar and cable car projects as well as the Santiago-Valparaíso train.
The remainder of the delegation, headed by Mining Undersecretary Suina Chahuán and InvestChile Director Karla Flores, traveled to Berlin to meet with mining suppliers. During this visit, Flores signed an agreement to promote German investment in Chile.
