During the event, representatives of the US companies discussed the challenges for the development of their businesses in Chile.
InvestChile, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency, met with more than twenty representatives of US companies that are members of the Chilean-North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in order to learn about challenges they face for the development of their businesses in Chile in the context of local constitutional debate and the ongoing global pandemic. The companies were from sectors that included banking, energy and insurance.
The round table was led by the director of InvestChile, Andrés Rodríguez, who was accompanied by Salvatore Di Giovanni, acting head of the Investment Promotion Division, and Vanessa Séverin, coordinator of Investor Relations. The meeting was moderated by the general manager of AmCham, Paula Estévez.
“For us, it is very important to listen to the doubts and concerns of US companies; they are Chile’s main source of foreign direct investment. InvestChile is a promotion agency, but it also supports overseas companies and our goal is for companies to continue choosing Chile for the development of their projects,” said Rodríguez.
The companies that participated in the meeting were optimistic about the economic and business outlook for Chile this year. Their main doubts focused on entry restrictions as a result of the pandemic and the constitutional process that will take place starting this year.
The United States is the main source of foreign direct investment in Chile, with a stock that reached US$35,464 million in 2019. InvestChile’s portfolio includes 86 US projects that, as of the end of last year, were worth a total of US$4,487 million.
