The official visit of the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, to South Korea, involved an intense agenda of activities to strengthen economic, trade and investment ties between the two countries.
The President inaugurated the Chile-Korea Business Seminar, a high-level meeting organized by ProChile, InvestChile and the Korea International Trade Association (KITA).
The event brought together leading authorities and representatives of the private sector, including Alberto van Klaveren, Chile’s Foreign Affairs Minister; Ignacio Fernández, ProChile Director; Karla Flores, InvestChile Director; Iván Marambio, President of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX); and Jin Sik Yoon, Chairman of KITA.
During his speech, President Boric reaffirmed Chile’s commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation. In turn, Jin Sik Yoon highlighted the complementarity of the two economies and the potential for new areas of collaboration.
Prior to the seminar, the President attended the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between KITA and ProChile, and between KITA and InvestChile.
The agreement with InvestChile, signed by Director Karla Flores, aims to strengthen institutional collaboration, promote the strategic exchange of information and support joint promotional activities that create new investment opportunities between Chile and Korea.
Founded in 1946, KITA is Korea’s largest business organization, with more than 77,000 member companies. Its work focuses on boosting the country’s global trade strategy through public-private cooperation, capacity building and international business promotion.
The InvestChile Director, Karla Flores, in conjunction with the Investment Commissioner for Asia, Catalina Pérez, led the Chile-Korea Investment Dialogue:. Strengthening Sustainable Investment Opportunities, which brought together more than 70 potential investors interested in learning about the opportunities offered by Chile.
Speakers included Woo Hyun Lee, Chairman of OCI; Ana Lía Rojas, Executive Director of the Asociación Chilena de Energías Renovables y Almacenamiento (ACERA AG, Chilean Renewable Energy and Storage Association); Dany Koo, CEO of LS MnM; as well as Karla Flores and Catalina Pérez.
The event involved a discussion of prospects for collaboration in strategic sectors such as clean energy, green hydrogen and critical minerals, pillars of the global energy transition.
The Chilean delegation also visited the Korea Institute for Science & Technology (KIST), where they held a high-level meeting and toured the environmental and clean hydrogen laboratories.
InvestChile also participated in meetings with H2 Korea, led by its Chairman Kim Jae-hong, along with Ha Ji-Won (Director of International Cooperation) and Kim Hyojin (Senior Researcher).
Also participating were Rebeca Poleo from H2 Chile and Ana Lía Rojas from ACERA, strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of green energy.
The agenda also included meetings with the Korea Battery Industry Association (KBIA), represented by its Vice Chairman Park Tae-sung, as well as with the Korea Export-Import Bank (K-Eximbank) and the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), to explore joint opportunities in technology, clean energy and strategic minerals development.
At the beginning of the week, InvestChile’s Infrastructure Sector Leader, Patricio Álvarez, and Catalina Pérez participated together with Claudio Soto, Director General (s) of Concessions of the Ministry of Public Works, at the 7th Korea-LAC Business Summit 2025, held in Seoul.
The forum was opened by Yun Cheol Koo, Vice Prime Minister of Korea, and Ilan Goldfajn, president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and brought together government and business representatives from Korea, Latin America and the Caribbean.
During the event, the Chilean delegation presented the Public Works Concession Portfolio 2025-2029, available on the new InvestChile portal, highlighting infrastructure investment opportunities under the public-private partnership model.
Meetings were also held with Shin Dae Won, Director of the Concessions Division of the Economy and Finance Ministry of Korea, and Jae Kang Song, President of the Korean Association of Concession Companies, to exchange experiences and strengthen technical cooperation.
At the Korea-LAC PPP Seminar, Claudio Soto spoke about the successful Chilean experience in implementing the PPP model, highlighting the legal security offered by the Chile-Korea Free Trade Agreement and the bilateral Investment and Double Taxation agreements.
Representatives from Colombia, the IDB and the Korea Development Institute (KDI)also participated, presenting the progress of the Korea-LAC PPP Technical Cooperation Program, aimed at strengthening the institutional frameworks and sustainability of concession systems in the region.
The official visit of President Gabriel Boric to South Korea marked a new milestone in the bilateral relationship, consolidating Chile as a reliable partner in sustainable investment, technological innovation and infrastructure.
