Government announces new Investment Commissioner for the Middle East

  • Francisco Picón is now working in his new role in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

President Gabriel Boric has appointed a new Investment Commissioner for the Middle East: Francisco Picón. He will be based in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, where he will serve companies from across the Middle East, specifically the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait, in addition to Saudi Arabia.

Francisco holds a degree in Law and a master’s in Constitutional Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He also holds a diploma in Political Strategies for Public Policy from the Universidad de Chile.

He previously worked for four years at InvestChile, first as a legal advisor and then as chief of staff. He also worked as a legal advisor to the Treasury Ministry.

In the private sector, Francisco worked at one of Chile’s leading consulting firms, advising companies on regulatory and legislative matters.

The priority sectors for attracting investment to Chile from Middle Eastern countries are energy transition (transmission, green hydrogen), global services and the digital economy, the food industry, infrastructure, critical minerals and investment funds, in line with InvestChile’s investment promotion strategy.

InvestChile, the country’s Foreign Investment Promotion Agency, already supports several companies from the Middle East, including Adia, Aramco, DP World and Adbul Latif Jameel Energy.
