  • The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency developed a roadshow with a packed agenda in South Korea and Japan to promote investment opportunities in green hydrogen in conjunction with a delegation made up of public authorities and representatives from companies in the sector.

The head of Investment Promotion at InvestChile, Salvatore Di Giovanni, and the Investment Commissioner for Asia, Catalina Perez, led a public-private delegation that developed a roadshow with a packed agenda in South Korea and Japan to promote investment opportunities in green hydrogen.

The mission involved the participation of H2 Chile, H2 Magallanes AG, H2 Antofagasta, MAE, HIF Global, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Colbún S.A., ACCIONA & Nordex Green Hydrogen and Consorcio Austral. It included seminars, bilateral meetings and technical visits with authorities and leading companies in the energy sector in both countries.

South Korea: seminar and strategic meetings

The roadshow began in Seoul, where the “Chile-Korea Seminar on Green Hydrogen Investment Opportunities” was held, organized in conjunction with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), H2 Korea and the Chilean Embassy in South Korea.

The meeting brought together more than 50 local executives and provided an opportunity to present the portfolio of Chilean projects in this sector.

The program included opening remarks by Kim Gi-Hyun, Vice President for International Affairs of KITA; Jung Seokjin, Secretary General of H2 Korea; and Chilean Ambassador to Korea, Mathias Francke.

Following this, Catalina Pérez moderated a panel of Chilean companies, which included the participation of companies from the delegation.

Later, bilateral meetings were held with Hyundai Motor Company, Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO) and KOGAS to address topics such as carbon neutrality goals, energy supply strategies and technological development associated with the hydrogen economy.

On the second day, the agenda included visits to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), which included a review of global projects and the company’s clean hydrogen strategy; the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center, with a presentation of Pohang City’s strategy to become a hydrogen development hub; and Plantec, an industrial company that develops solutions throughout the hydrogen value chain.

Japan: Expo Osaka and high-level meetings

On Sunday, August 24, the Chilean delegation began its activities in Osaka with its participation in the opening ceremony of Energy Week at the Chile Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, headed by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow.

The event brought together companies and authorities to highlight Chile’s potential as a strategic partner in clean energy supply.

The following day in Tokyo involved bilateral meetings with key players in the Japanese energy sector, including Idemitsu, SMBC Bank, JBIC, JOGMEC and IEEJ.

On Tuesday, the delegation continued with an agenda of B2B meetings with major Japanese companies, including Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Sumitomo Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation and JERA, to explore cooperation opportunities in hydrogen, renewable energy and infrastructure.

On Wednesday, InvestChile was part of the Chile-Japan Seminar “Energy Transition: The Importance of Renewable Energies and the Future of Green Hydrogen,” which brought together more than 80 representatives from public and private sectors and highlighted Chile’s potential as a global hub for renewable energies and green hydrogen.

The meeting, organized by ProChile, the Chilean Embassy in Japan and InvestChile, included opening remarks by Ricardo Rojas, Chilean Ambassador to Japan, followed by an opening speech by Kentaro Oe, Director of the International Division at the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Japan.

The keynote address was given by the Chilean Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, who presented the national strategy and country commitment to the advancement of clean energy.

The program included Panel 1: Energy Transition in Chile, Achievements, New Challenges and Business Opportunities, with the participation of Ana Lía Rojas (ACERA), Darío Morales (ACESOL), Rui de Oliveira (Anesco Ltd.) and Karina Gómez (NIDO Contech).

Yoshiaki Shibata, Senior Research Director at the Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ), then presented the first Japanese experience.

Panel 2: Challenges for the Development of a Green Hydrogen Industry was moderated by Catalina Pérez of InvestChile and included the participation of Pablo Hojman (MAE), Ignacio Hernández (HIF Global), Max Correa (CIP), Rebeca Poleo (ENGIE Chile – H2 Chile) and Heinz Müller (Colbún).

The seminar concluded with a second Japanese experience shared by Kyoko Tsuru and Ayane Ishizuki of the Mitsubishi Research Institute.

The day closed with a question and answer session and a networking space, fostering collaboration between Chilean and Japanese actors to accelerate the development of green hydrogen.

This roadshow is a significant step towards strengthening Chile’s position as a regional clean energy hub and building long-term partnerships with leading Japanese companies, helping to accelerate the global energy transition.
